Meritage
Oyster Bar
Opened
in December 2010 - the newly christened Meritage Oyster Bar is
an addition the Klein's planned for two years; traveling the East
& West Coasts of the US, and touring through the classic Brasseries
of Paris.
Always
one of their favorite aspects of Brasserie culture, the shell
fish program at Meritage explores everything from the merrior
of oysters to the little neck clams of Chef Klein's childhood.
Adding
40 seats and a more casual element to Meritage, the oyster bar
also jumps head-first into crafted cocktails and maintains a thoughtfully
selectived beer list, including a couple of taps. Crowned by a
art nouveau Absinthe fountain, the space captures a bit of Paris
in the 1930's, classic, beautiful - and with a highlight on two
historical aphrodisiacs, even a bit naughty.
Meritage
Dining Room
Meritage
is modeled after a traditional French Brasserie, paying homage
to a century's old ambiance & culture. Yet, this is our take
on it. Russell and I wanted to infuse the place with a little
of ourselves, a little tradition, and a little something new.
Meritage
- the name - captures this sentiment too. Meritage is a wine created
using the grape varietals of Bordeaux, but produced in the United
States. Therefore, it is American wine produced in the French
tradition - this is a reflection of Russell's food as well.
The Hamm
Building, being constructed in 1919, offered the perfect setting
for Meritage, as well as having been the space Russell & I chose
to host our wedding reception. Another take on a classic, we offer
a cheese cart - as there is no greater comfort food to the Midwest
than cheese and there is so much great cheese to showcase.
During
the day, the restaurant is a casual gathering place that offers
class, as well as good food and swift service for a reasonable price.
At night, we offer the din of a bustling restaurant in an intimate
setting.

Meritage
Terrace
The Terrace
at Meritage, added in 2008, is a fully enclosed custom wrought-iron
sidewalk dining area in the heart of downtown St Paul.
The Terrace opens as soon as weather permits, generally the first
couple of weeks in April. During summer the Terrace is open
for continuous service, meaning Meritage will be serving all day
outside (weather permitting, of course).
So, join
us for a mid-day glass of Rose, or bring a friend for some New York-French
style dining; curbside, surrounded by greenery, in brasserie chairs.
Unfortunately,
we are unable to take reservations specifically for the Terrace.
We will make a note, if you request Terrace seating, and when you
arrive for your reservation, should the weather be nice, we will
be happy to accommodate requests on a first-come, first-served basis.
We do
this in case of inclimate weather and to give everyone the opportunity
to check out our patio without obligation. We do our best not to
overbook our restaurant, as waiting for tables isn't in anyone's
best interest.
